20 Cheddar Caves & Gorge
Owned by the Thynn family of Longleat since 1558, Cheddar Caves & Gorge is the finest example of ‘karst’ limestone scenery in Britain, with its dramatic cliffs rising to 450ft and two beautiful stalactite caverns.
The 3-mile long Gorge, created by Ice Age meltwaters, was home to our Hunter-gatherer ancestors for 40,000 years, and today is a famous tourist beauty spot and sanctuary for rare native British wildlife.
